Sweets Manufacturing Facility, Leeds

Built at a cost of £35 million, this sustainable manufacturing facility in Castleford was designed to produce 48,000 tonnes of sweets annually. The facility achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability and resource efficiency. The development incorporated advanced manufacturing technologies and staff welfare facilities, all within a building that prioritised eco-friendly practices.

Stormsaver provided a Combi Rainwater Harvesting System to supply water for 33 toilets and 4 urinals within the staff welfare facilities. The system, equipped with a 25,000-litre underground storage tank, has been operational for a number of years with minimal downtime. To ensure water quality, the system includes a UV (ultraviolet) filter to eliminate the risk of bacterial contamination.

Understanding the importance of maintaining the system’s performance, the client opted for a bi-annual service solution and regular tank cleaning. On the latest service visit, it was discovered that the system had recycled 1.8 million litres of rainwater, equivalent to approximately 412,500 toilet flushes.
