Greggs Eco Drive-Thru, Winchester

The Eco Drive-Thru project, launched by Greggs, was the first of its kind within the organisation. Building on the success of their first Eco-Shop, the drive-thru was designed to deliver the same quality service for customers and become a testbed for eco-initiatives. The project specification stated that the building would be occupied by both customers and staff and housed 3 WC units.

As part of The Greggs Pledge, the goal was to test systems that could be rolled out across 25% of their estate and, for this project, that was achieved through the installation of a rainwater harvesting system, solar panels, sun tubes, and efficient heating and cooling systems.

Stormsaver was commissioned to provide the rainwater harvesting system. The system needed to overcome two key challenges: limited site space, and the client’s desire to make sustainable practices visible to customers.

Our design team developed the solution by supplying a StormStation system, a compact, all-in-one unit which contained every essential component, including a 3,000-litre storage tank, pre-tank filters, booster set, and a control panel. This “plug-and-play” system enabled quick installation, saving the client both time and labour costs.

The system provided significant water savings, while also serving as a clear and visible demonstration of the client’s commitment to sustainability.
