Furniture Retail Store, Sheffield

Built at a cost of £60 million, the developer of this new stored wanted the design to be their most environmentally friendly location yet. The huge 35,000 m2 store was designed to house a large showroom, food hall, creche and 1,000 car parking spaces.

The design of the building featured solar panels for energy generation, rainwater harvesting and electric vehicle charging points. Collectively, these technologies allowed the building to be classified as BREEAM rated “excellent”. This rating put the new store in the top 5% of sustainable buildings in the UK.

Our design team were able to provide a rainwater harvesting solution to collect rainwater from the roof and recycle it for toilet flushing. The solution came in the form of our highly reliable non-pressurised system. This included a break tank which offers a number of fail-safe which reduces the risk of a supply failure, something which was important to the customer.

Our estimators also specified a UV disinfection system for the removal of bacteria from the rainwater supply. This was especially important due to the creche facility which required a higher degree of cleanliness. Stormsaver have also provided service and maintenance services to the site for the past five years.
