Distribution Centre, West Yorkshire

Built at a cost of £100 million, this large fulfilment centre was constructed for the globe’s leading ecommerce retailer. The 2 million square foot distribution facility created more than 2,000 jobs and was designed with a strong focus on sustainability, supporting Amazon’s wider commitment to become net zero carbon by 2040 and water positive by 2030.

The building achieved BREEAM Excellent certification, reflecting best practice in environmental performance for large-scale logistics facilities. Sustainability technologies included energy-efficient lighting, low-energy heating systems, EV charging infrastructure, and a rainwater harvesting system designed to reduce reliance on mains water.

Stormsaver worked closely with the client and project team to deliver a rainwater harvesting system capable of meeting the operational demands of a large-scale distribution centre. With an extensive roof area available for collection and a consistently high water demand from staff facilities, the site was suited for water reuse.

A combi rainwater harvesting system was specified. This solution was chosen for its low footprint requirements and reliability. The system included an automatic backwash filter, reducing maintenance requirements and eliminating the need for manual filter changes. Stormsaver have also provided ongoing planned maintenance to the site for a number of years. In this time, the system has required minimal component replacements.
