The need to reduce reliance on potable water, whilst in a cost-effective and sustainable manner are all key considerations. Water saving devices, such as rainwater harvesting systems, should be both considered and specified.

Rainwater harvesting systems, which can be fitted in domestic builds, can contribute to a level 3 or higher of the Code for Sustainable Homes or BREEAM rating by helping to drastically reduce annual mains water consumption, by up to 50-70% in each home.
